Police release video of murdered pensioner hours before he was killed”

Little more than 30 minutes later, the "kind and gentle" 83-year-old was found dead in an area of Norfolk woodland, having been subjected to one of the most brutal murders county police officers have ever seen.

Police have named Peter Wrighton, 83, of Banham, as the victim of the East Harling murder.

The family of retired BT worker Mr Wrighton, who had been married for 59 years, paid tribute to his "kind nature" and his "love of walking his dogs and chatting with people to pass the time of day".

They have also appealed for three "vital" witnesses to come forward.

"We want to help Peter's family and people in the area".

DS Smith said: "There is no one motive we're focusing on".

They warned the public that the killer could still be in the woods.

"We need to speak to anyone who has recently visitor and/or frequents the area where Peter's body was found".

Detective Superintendent Andy Smith said: "This is a complex investigation and we are pursuing many leads. We do not know the identities of these three men, but are appealing to them in particular".

"We need to piece together Peter's final movements so that we can understand what happened to him and why".

He described Mr Wrighton as of slim build, 5ft 7in, with grey hair and glasses. "In addition, anyone else with images or footages of the area should contact us".

"I would like to ask again, that if you live within five miles of The Street please can you check your bins, gardens and outbuildings for any items which may have been discarded by a potential suspect".

"We also want to hear from delivery drivers who might have travelled through or have been in the area on Saturday and who could have important dash cam footage for us to review".

"We remain concerned that we have not yet been able to trace the person or people responsible for Peter's death", said Mr Fawcett.

"A police presence will remain in the area for the foreseeable future and I hope this provides local communities with confidence that we are here to support and protect them".

Anyone with information should contact Norfolk Police on 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
