The making of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette

The making of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette”

"Alexandre Lacazette looked sharp against Chelsea at Wembley last weekend and he can get off to a flier for his new club at the Emirates". This game will have more of a competitive edge than the usual curtain raiser, but we can expect Arsene Wenger's side to be up for it.

If the overhaul of City's squad, costing over £200 million, does not deliver silverware there will be further uncomfortable questions for the Spaniard, who finished his first season in English football without a single title.

The transfer window in England closes at 11pm on Thursday, August 31.

The link drawn between Wenger regarding the possibility of a female manager in the Premier League and managers who are not "football specialists" is an interesting one, but perhaps let's not dwell on what we're sure was a perfectly innocent segue.

However, the Algeria global ended up staying put - though toiled amid a hard campaign under both Claudio Ranieri and Craig Shakespeare last season.

Jack Wilshere, who started the season looking in great form, was left ruing another long term injury. While for Leicester, who got dethroned to finishing 12th last season, this season is about regaining that lost pride.

PSG has already spent bigger than any team before it this summer. Perez has made his feelings clear recently and certainly wants to leave the club after being snubbed by Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal will be without some familiar faces for the opener. Sanchez tallied 24 goals and 11 assists in 38 games last season.

Laurent Koscielny is banned, while Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are fitness doubts. New boy Kolasinac is expected to make his debut.

While for Leicester, it will interesting to see their midfield with both Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra being unavailable.

The striker managed 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions a year ago despite not making a start until Boxing Day, so he's more than worthy of being a back-up to Lacazette.

In an off-season that has seen more than £1 billion (S$1.77 billion) invested in players, Mancunian rivals City and United have accounted for more than a third of that spending.

Shakespeare believes Arsenal will be title challengers this season, but ultimately thinks Manchester City will have too much for the rest of the league. Although they have key players absent, they should be able to pick up three points on Friday night.
