Al Gore: Trump has 'thrown his lot in' with climate deniers”

World leaders are due to meet in Bonn, Germany in November (17) to discuss tackling global warming, but environmental efforts have been put in jeopardy by U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull America out of the 2015 Paris climate change agreement.

"When he made his statement, I was anxious that other countries might follow his lead and pull out using that as an excuse, but to the contrary the rest of the world - the very next day - redoubled their commitments to stay in the Paris Agreement, as if to say, 'We'll show you Mr. Trump!'" I was anxious that some other countries might pull out and use him as an excuse. "But that didn't happen".

Gore, in London for the premiere of his new film on climate change, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power", said late on Thursday that local governments and the private sector would work to cut planet-warming emissions in line with the US pledge made for the accord. "A new president could just give 30 days notice and legally the US would be back in". On Tuesday the president promised to unleash "fire and fury" on the country if it continued to threaten the USA, and doubled down on the remarks Thursday, when he said the military was "locked and loaded".

Gore, who has been a stringent critic of Trump's views and actions on climate change, said that Trump "inherited a very unsafe situation" from previous world leaders and so should not be blamed entirely for the escalation, which most recently saw North Korea promising a plan to strike the USA territory of Guam within days. "I hope he will listen to them and I hope their cooler heads will prevail", he adds.

Gore said he hoped Trump's senior advisers stressed caution.

The otherwise people-friendly Trudeau upset environmentalists concerned about the damage the pipeline will do ecologically when he said he was "very pleased" Trump approved the pipeline because he believes will it boost economic growth.

In an interview before the British premiere of his new film, Gore said he remained "very hopeful that we are on the way now to solutions for the climate crisis".

Under article 28 of the Paris Agreement, a Party may withdraw at any time after three years from the date on which the Agreement has entered into force for that Party, and such withdrawal takes effect upon expiry of one year from the date of receipt by the Depositary of the notification of withdrawal. "To me, he's a breath of fresh air compared to his predecessor".

In the clip, posted on Paramount Pictures' official YouTube channel, celebrities explain why they're "inconvenient" when it comes to supporting the fight against global warming.
