BMW Group global sales up 0.4% in July 2017

BMW Group global sales up 0.4% in July 2017”

Comparing plug-ins against the overall total of 180,485 BMW & MINI vehicles sold last month, we see a record high 4.5% share for electric vehicles last month.

BMW says it now has a total of nine electrified automobiles on the market, and sales of these vehicles totaled 50,711 in the first seven months of the year, an increase of 74.8% on the same period last year. The scheme allows owners of any Euro-4 or older standard diesel-powered vehicle to swap their auto for a £2,000 discount - as well as a part-exchange payment - on any Euro-6-compliant BMW or Mini vehicle, as well as any electrified auto from either brand.

The BMW Group has reported that it delivered more than 50,000 BMW i, BMW iPerformance and electrified MINI vehicles to customers around the world since the start of the year.

Headwinds in the United Kingdom market led to a slight decrease in sales in Europe in July, BMW said, but sales in the region in the year to date remain slightly above the very high level of last year, with growth of 1.7%.

The company is also now experiencing its best sales year on record, having shifted a total of 1,401,551 vehicles globally - 4.3 per cent more than for the same period last year.

The downturn in the U.S. automotive market is reflected in the BMW Group's figures for the Americas, which in the year to date are 3.5% below last year's level.

BMW Group sales in Asia continue to grow this year, driven mainly by China, where combined BMW and MINI deliveries are up 17.0% in the first seven months of the year. The move by BMW to encourage its customers to more efficient cars comes a couple of weeks after the UK Government said it was committing to plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040.

The CEO of BMW Group UK, Graeme Grieve, said: "We know in the early phases that people still need some incentive to make the jump to fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles and that is why we are delighted to announce this new allowance".
