Burnley defeat Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday, August 12, 2017 began the defense of their title on a disastrous note after losing 2-3 to Burnley in-front of their faithfuls.

"For sure it was a key moment, because after this red card we lost our composure and we conceded three goals", he added.

"We must pay attention and try to keep our heads the rest of the game".

Conte was proud of the second-half effort, but acknowledged Chelsea lost their heads after Cahill saw red, a period in which Fabregas got his first booking for sarcastically applauding referee Craig Pawson, who came under pressure from the home players and supporters.

"But our first half we kept losing our heads - after the red card we lost our heads, conceded two goals and then it's very hard to change the final result", Conte told the BBC.

"I like to tell always the truth and in the second half we changed totally the situation".

Some have argued that Chelsea's squad is weaker than at the end of last season after John Terry's departure, Nemanja Matic's sale and Diego Costa's impending exit, but Conte is not concerned.

"Also I have to study a new formation with 10 men, because when it happens with this regularity I must be anxious". You were not happy with my 11?' said Conte when asked if his selection was influenced by his dissatisfaction at Chelsea's transfer policy this summer. I don't like this type of thing, about wanting to send a message? I want to win.

Conte handed youngster Jeremie Boga a debut with Victor Moses suspended, while there were also places on the substitutes' bench for Charly Musonda, Kyle Scott, Fikayo Tomori and the disgraced Kenedy, who is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Newcastle having been sent home from the club's pre-season tour of China for posting an insulting video on Instagram.
