Inmate goes live on Facebook from inside SC prison

Inmate goes live on Facebook from inside SC prison”

Rivera, who is serving time for a 2014 burglary conviction, has been using * a href="http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/i-fking-killed-my-sister-teen-livestreams-fatal-car-crash-instagram-1631670" target="_blank" *the livestreaming video platform to communicate with people on the outside including his partner and sending threats to a man allegedly communicating with his child's mother.

The 31-year-old proudly showed off his illegal contraband, threatened someone with a knife, chatted with his online friends and told his baby momma that she is tripping, in the video posted last Friday. And she loving me, though. They love me in here.

"I'm live in this b-ch", he can be heard saying.

Rivera has already been reprimanded twice this year, reports WRAL, but still went on Facebook live to deliver another profanity-laced post.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections launched an investigation to find out how Rivera continues to gain access to cell phones. The prison punished him by taking away his canteen, television and visitation privileges, but this doesn't seem to stop him. "This why the FCC should allow prisons across the country to block cell phones".

"We've been very vocal about cell phone contraband...not only in our prisons, but in corrections departments across the country".

The state governor has asked federal officials to allow state prisons to jam cellphone signals.

We spoke with state Sen. Naturally, his possession of the knife shown in the video footage is also extremely troubling.

One work strike targeted a company that provides meals at correctional facilities, while another called for an end to inmate work programs.

"The fact that we don't have more control over what goes on inside the walls of the correctional institutions is concerning but, it's a staffing issue".

"Most of these folks have victims that are associated with their crimes, and the victims should not be subjected to seeing any more of the shenanigans that's going on with these Facebook posts and Twitter or whatever they're using to get these messages out", said State Senator Brad Hutto, who represents Orangeburg.

Corrections Department spokeswoman Sommer Sharpe also released a statement after these videos were brought to their attention.

Beyond using cell phones to reach the outside world and boast about in-prison exploits, prisoners have also used cell phones to access social media and organize work strikes.

The SCDC has a special page on its website set up to allow the public to report prisoner cell phone usage.

The problem is nationwide, but SC prisons have garnered particular attention due to media reports exposing the prevalence of the problem there.
