Omarosa causes uproar at Black Journalists convention

Omarosa causes uproar at Black Journalists convention”

Hannah-Jones and Cobb pulled out of the panel, and Bounce TV's Ed Gordon stepped in to serve as the event's moderator.

Ms. Manigault's appearance on a panel about police brutality had already caused drama among the journalists who were set to join her, because she was apparently added at the last minute, according to Page Six.

Omarosa Manigault, the director of communications for the White House's Office of Public Liaison, engaged in a contentious exchange Friday during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists' convention in New Orleans. "Everyone sees it as extremely offensive", a source told us.

Cobb told Page Six that Omarosa's inclusion wasn't the sole reason for quitting the panel, branding the event "very disorganized".

The tension did not dissipate by the time Manigault walked off the stage before the panel was complete. Several conference attendees in the audience stood with their backs turned to Manigault, while others just walked out.

When Omarosa eventually took the stage, the conversation immediately grew heated. She started out the panel by outlining those she had personally lost to violence, including her own father, brother and seven of her high school classmates.

Manigault-Newman interrupted Gordon as he tried to ask her how she could sit in "a White House with a man who clearly is sending a signal to this country that" police don't have to treat suspects gently. At one point, a video of Trump speaking played on the screen.

"I deeply respect the NABJ as an important institution for black voices in mainstream media", Packnett said after the panel. Omarosa said at one point, telling Gordon, "Don't be aggressive", and standing up from her chair.

On Friday, Cobb retweeted a message replying to Gordon's statement that read, "It's not an interview if you can't ask her real questions". "Ask me a question about me". "Because if you're not on the table, you're on the menu", she said.

Manigault-Newman could not say what, if anything, she had done to address these issues within the administration, but continuously defended her role as a convener.

The panel she was on - titled Black and Blue: Raising Our Sons, Protecting Our Community - opened with Valerie Castile, the mother of Philando Castile, and Sandra Sterling, the aunt of Alton Sterling.
