Texas' 2017 Tax Free Weekend

Texas' 2017 Tax Free Weekend”

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar's office says the 2017 Sales Tax Holiday is August 11-13.

Items like clothing, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies will be exempt from taxes on August 11th - August 13th, allowing shoppers to save as they get their gear for the next school year.

Friday was the start to the Tax Free Weekend.

"You'll save approximately $8 for every $100 you spend", said Candace Foster, the marketing director at Broadway Square Mall.

This year's sales tax holiday is August 11-13.

Nor does it apply to adjustment (including embroidery) or cleaning services performed on clothes and shoes.

The tax exemption is not just limited to children's clothes.

For a full list of all items that are exempt from taxes, you can visit the Texas Comptroller website.

Parents and guardians can do some much-needed school supply shopping during the state sales tax holiday this weekend. Online purchases are included in tax-free weekend as well.

A sale of a qualifying item under a layaway plan qualifies for exemption if the customer places the qualifying merchandise on layaway during the holiday or makes the final payment during the holiday.
