Trump tells Guam Governor 'you are safe'

Trump tells Guam Governor 'you are safe'”

The mayor of Guam recorded the candid, 3-minute phone conversation with Trump and posted it to his Facebook page. Pyongyang this week threatened to fire missiles near the US territory of Guam during an exchange of bellicose rhetoric with Trump.

Trump planned to launch the trade investigation more than a week ago, but he delayed the move in favor of securing China's support for expanded United Nations sanctions against North Korea, the senior administration official said.

"You know, they're showing so much, it's such a big story in the news and it just looks like a handsome place", he says. We are with you 1,000 per cent. "All over the world they're talking about Guam and they're talking about you", the clip, about 45 seconds long, showed the President as saying.

Before speaking to Mr Calvo, Mr Trump told reporters in New Jersey that he believed Guam would be "very safe" and threatened North Korea with "big, big trouble" if it launched an attack.

The fact sheets didn't seem to cause any widespread anxiety or affect day-to-day Guam life.

"Do not look at the flash or fireball - it can blind you", the missile threat prep fact sheet advises those who are caught outside. "Fallout radiation loses its intensity fairly rapidly".

The Government has instructed residents to be proactive and create emergency supply kits, a family emergency plan and a list of concrete shelters in their vicinity.

Trump told President Xi Jinping that he plans to direct U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on Monday to begin the probe into alleged Chinese violations of U.S. intellectual property rights, the official said. Asked if the US was going to war, he said cryptically, "I think you know the answer to that".

Guam's Office of Civil Defense started passing out flyers on Friday to help residents prepare for a missile attack from North Korea.

.

Trump's call with Xi and his plans to open the broad trade investigation come against the backdrop of rising tensions over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Trump is also warning about the dangers of nuclear weapons, saying he'd like to "de-nuke the world".

On Wednesday, Mr Trump followed up his "fire and fury" warning with a boast about U.S. nuclear capabilities.
