Burnley Stuns Chelsea in Dramatic Opening Day Victory at Stamford Bridge”

Chelsea's defence of their Premier League title got off to a disappointing start on Saturday as they lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

The post Burnley making Chelsea feel the blues appeared first on Vanguard News.

Chelsea had not lost on the opening day of the season since 1998 and paraded the Premier League trophy before kick-off as a reminder of the size of the task facing the Clarets.

"We tried to keep the ball second half and contain them, but they're a fine side, they threw caution to the wind because they had nothing to lose".

When asked if Pawson got the big decisions right, Conte replied: "Mmm.I prefer to not comment on the referee's decision and performance".

The recruitment of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, defender Antonio Rudiger from Roma and former Manchester City keeper Willy Caballero fills the gaps vacated by this quartet.

But instead of replacing a defensive player for Morata, Conte made it a straight-swap for striker Michy Batshuayi.

Steve Mounie doubled their advantage with a powerful header and added a third in the 78th minute, as new Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer endured a miserable first game.

But it wasn't enough as the Premier League champions suffered a surprise defeat at Stamford Bridge. "I know twice as many people are paying attention to me".

Spanish global Alvaro Morata came from the bench to score the first goal for the Blues in the 69th minutes before David Luiz netted at the death as the match ended 3-2 in favor of Burnley.

With Victor Moses ruled out of the game through suspension after being sent-off for two bookable offences in the FA Cup final against Arsenal three months ago, his place at right-wing back goes to Cesar Azpilicueta.

In the first game of the night, Miguel Britos scored a controversial 93rd-minute equaliser for Watford as Liverpool were held in a thrilling game at Vicarage Road.

"And your first away win is important after last season [not getting one until April], so it kills a few things off early doors".
