CHARLOTTESVILLE | Driver in deadly attack from OH, officials say”

Superintendent Martin Kumer with the Albermarle-Charlottesville County Regional Jail said Fields is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and failure to stop, CNN reportes.

The auto is registered to 20-year-old James Alex Fields of OH, according to vehicle registration records reviewed by The Washington Post.

A 32-year-old woman died when a auto was driven into the crowd during the anti-rally protest earlier today. The Post reported that Fields' last known address was in Maumee, a suburb of Toledo.

The auto seen in photographs running over protesters at a white-nationalist rally in Virginia on Saturday afternoon has an OH license plate.

The controversial "Unite the Right" march was organised to protest the removal of a statue honouring General Robert E Lee, commander of the Confederate Army in the 19th-century American Civil War.

Matt Korbon, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student, said several hundred counter-protesters were marching through a pedestrian mall downtown when "suddenly there was just this tire screeching sound".
