Colorado Rockies sign Ryan Howard to minor league deal

Colorado Rockies sign Ryan Howard to minor league deal”

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to term on a Minor League contract with former Philadelphia Phillies great, Ryan Howard.

Yes, that Ryan Howard, the 37-year-old former Phillies MVP who played in his last major league game almost 11 months ago.

Howard, 37, had signed a minor-league deal with the Atlanta Braves earlier this season and hit.184 (7 for 38) in 11 games with the team's triple-A affiliate in Gwinnett before being released May 8. The three-time All-Star will report to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, but the club didn't say when in Saturday's announcement.

Howard was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2005 and MVP in 2006, and he led the Phillies to the 2008 World Series title. He'd been slumping badly for a couple years, and one point, a Phillies columnist begged him to hang up the cleats for good. He is second on the Phillies' career home run list with 382 and third in RBIs with 1,194. The following season, Howard was voted the National League MVP after registering a league-leading 58 home runs and 149 RBI while hitting.313.
