Jose Mourinho confirms talks over Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Man United return

Jose Mourinho confirms talks over Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Man United return”

An unerring knack of drawing matches they dominated proved their undoing, struggling to break teams down when top goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was absent or stuttered. Stewart Robson dissects game footage of Romelu Lukaku with Everton to display what the striker will bring to Man United. "He's not ready to play tomorrow".

"In my other clubs, what I had was more people scoring goals - midfield players scoring goals, wingers scoring goals, central defenders good in the air, scoring goals at set-pieces".

"We always had more goals from wingers, midfielders getting 10 goals, central defenders getting five goals and last season that didn't happen much".

"The challenge is to win more matches than we did, by scoring more or conceding less, I don't know".

Mourinho has an impressive record in his second seasons at clubs, winning the title in both spells at Chelsea, as well as at Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

"There's no relation between clubs and countries and seasons and periods, so obviously there is no guarantee".

The 54-year-old added: "I think everyone - the top seven - are all in Europe".

"I just think that naturally, a manager in the second season knows the players and knows the club better".

"What it means for me to be the Premier League champion?"

"I have conditions to deliver a better team than I did in the first season".

"He had a good fight against two good central defender and I am happy with this period and how he fits into - I am never exhausted to repeat - an incredible group".

The Sweden worldwide was United's top scorer last season, hitting 28 goals as they won the Europa League, the League Cup and the Community Shield.

"Manchester United are one of the top three football clubs in the world, no doubt about it, but the football club is one thing and the team's credentials going into a competition are another thing entirely", said Mourinho.

"Last season we won trophies". We'll take it step by step and be humble.

"Some, okay, have the luck to play Tuesday or Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, but in the end the same number of matches". We'll improve the team and try to be at that level, to constantly be improving.

"But we have lost important players to injury too, such as Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic".

Such absentees means the United boss does not believe they have advanced hugely compared with this time past year, but he retains hope of making a fourth summer signing. But we are involved in four competitions. We also got a central midfielder and a striker.

"It's different to any one of the other leagues".

"We have a giant on our chest, which is really heavy, but we don't compare our potential to the biggest clubs in Europe right now".
