North: Media to Partly Blame for Escalating US-N. Korea Tension”

ANDREI LANKOV: Ideally, Russia and China would like to see Korean peninsula stable, divided between two countries, North and South, and, well, in the best of the possible worlds, non-nuclear.

"China opposes both nuclear proliferation and war in the Korean Peninsula".

China will "firmly resist any side which wants to change the status quo of the areas where China's interests are concerned".

The Global Times is published under the ruling Communist Party's official People's Daily newspaper.

Even as US President Donald Trump says the "fire and fury" he said North Korea would face if it attacked the US maybe "wasn't tough enough", senior officials in the White House have played down the president's tough talk, with Defense Secretary James Mattis saying a war would be "catastrophic". "But is it brinkmanship or simply the beginning of the end for North Korea?"

Now that North Korea is recognized by the intelligence community and policymakers alike as a clear and present danger to the USA mainland-armed with ICBMs capable of blasting American cities with atomic warheads, possibly with much more powerful thermonuclear warheads in 6-18 months-what can we do?

"I think China can do a lot more, yes".

The United States to protect itself and maintain global credibility has little choice but to make a disarming strike, at least against the two North Korean satellites, that might be nuclear-armed for EMP attack, orbiting over the US, and against the dozen North Korean road-mobile ICBMs now deployed. The potential conflict would expand and result in tremendous damages to the neighboring nations. Japan and South Korea may choose to realign with China and Russian Federation for security. At the same time, one should not forget that Beijing and Moscow do not favor the policy of the North Korean regime.

If the USA learns to live with a nuclear-armed North Korea, will we also learn to live with a nuclear-armed Iran?

"The expert added that China sent a stern warning over the situation in the region".

But, the Global Times warned that if the us strikes first and tries to overthrow the North Korean regime, China will step in to defend its neighbor. The North responded with a warning that it was considering an attack on the US territory of Guam.

"Pyongyang understands that if it launches a nuclear missile this would risk provoking nuclear war". Heretofore, the administration has urged China to press North Korea as a kind of subcontractor to achieve American objectives.

Last month, Pyongyang conducted two tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles. According to the plan, four Hwasong-12 missiles will fly around 3,400 kilometers, particularly crossing Japan's airspace, and land in water 30-40 kilometers off the Guam coast.

But if North Korea escalates, the USA must be prepared to escalate to massive disarming strikes, including use of nuclear weapons.
