Stormy weather halts play at PGA Championship

Stormy weather halts play at PGA Championship”

Kevin Kisner stretched his lead by posting a 4-under-par 67 in Friday's second round at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club.

Two holes after hitting into the water on No. 16 to lose a two-shot lead, Kisner chopped out of the cabbage-like lie to the other side of the 18th green, then navigated a super slick 45-foot putt to close range to escape with bogey and a 1-over 72, giving him a one-shot lead over Hideki Matsuyama and Chris Stroud.

Here's what happened: A two hour weather delay meant that the second round of the championship would fall just short of being finished.

Of the 15 players who remained under par, Louis Oosthuizen was the only one who had won a major, and that was seven years ago (the 2010 British Open).

Asked what "disappointed" him most about the week, Spieth said, "To not have a chance to win". "Now I'm in a dogfight tomorrow and I have to be prepared for that", said the world number 25. "You can hit it right like Jason did today and then there is water on the left, so it is tough all of the way around". If we look historically back on my career, I think I will play this tournament worse than the other three majors just in the way that it's set up.

Despite that, Kisner could capture the title in just his 12th major start. What helped was that Quail Hollow punished just about everyone at some point Thursday in the PGA Championship. "I think that's why I feel like I'm ready to win a major championship now versus past year, when I probably didn't have that."That's what Tiger [Woods] did so well".

Matsuyama, tied for the halfway lead, had high hopes of moving into position to become the first Japanese man to win a major.

It is the first time a player on the PGA Tour has recorded back-to-back eagles since Marc Leishman last November.

"I don't think I was as free rolling as I thought I would be, as you can tell by some frustration", he said. I have to play great but we're only halfway through.

Lahiri, who was tied 33rd after a 72 in the first round, struggled with his start, carding a bogey on the first hole before making five par consecutive par effort.

Nobody wants to do that, but there's a small loophole in the rules of golf which makes it preventable: if play is suspended due to darkness, players have the option of finishing the hole they're now playing. That gave him a 73, and after getting within three shots, he trailed by six.

Texan Jordan Spieth surrendered any chance of completing the career grand slam for at least 12 months, a double-bogey at the last leaving him 10 shots off the pace. I have a lot of opportunities.

Rory McIlroy, who is well back at four over, said the speed of play was an issue.
