Usain Bolt lost his final career race, but he's still the GOAT

Usain Bolt lost his final career race, but he's still the GOAT”

The British quartet of CJ Ujah, Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake pipped the United States to victory in a new European record and world-leading 37.47 seconds, but only after Bolt had pulled up on his anchor leg and collapsed to the track.

Their career successes dictated that they should both leave with gold medals hanging around their neck but there were a number of party-poopers on hand to steal a portion of the limelight.

No matter the result of the relay, organisers said Bolt will be afforded a dedicated lap of honour on Sunday in tribute to his awesome track career. Rico Freimuth took silver with 8,564 points, while German teammate Kai Kazmirek was third with 8,488.

He hobbled and went down in agony as Britain kept on going to hold off the U.S. and take gold. The 30-year-old posted the fastest time in the semi-finals in stark contrast to the 1/6 on favourite world record-holder Kendra Harrison who squeezed into the final as the second and last fastest loser.

As expected, the United States also qualified.

Usain Bolt will take part in the final of 4 X 100 metres relay which will be the closing act of the night at 21.50 local time or 02.20 AM (August 13, Sunday morning).

After winning the 4x100m title in Brazil, Bolt confirmed that the 2017 world championships would be his final event. Britain gladly bagged a silver in 42.12, and defending champions Jamaica clocked 42.19 for the bronze.

Olympic great Usain Bolt reacts in despair after injury cost him a relay medal at the world athletics championships in London. If he wins he will be the first athlete to have swept the event at youth, junior and senior level.

Johannes Vetter of Germany won the javelin title with an opening throw of 89.89 meters.

Since that gold medal in 2007, the USA men had only won one other medal in the event, a silver in 2013.

Experienced Yohan Blake, who finished fourth in the mens 100m final and failed to qualify for the final round in 200m, did not start in the heats but Bolt later said that he will return in the final race.

Also, British runner Mo Farah will compete in his last race on the track at a major championship when he goes for a fourth straight world title in the 5,000.
