Wenger explains why Arsenal never wanted to sign Mahrez”

"There is no guarantee but naturally a manager in his second season knows the club and the players better".

New Betfair and Paddy Power customers can get 20/1 enhanced odds (Max stake £1) on Arsenal to beat Leicester City in their Premier League opener on Friday night.

Nine of 10 writers picked Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea to win, and eight picked Manchester City, though Jasper thinks Brighton could spring a shock in their first Premier League match.

So as the Premier League season gets underway this weekend, I pick out a few ones to watch for the coming season.

Fresh from a Community Shield win against Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium, the Gunners are flying high even before the Premier League has begun.

On all counts. Arsene Wenger had mentioned Alexandre Lacazette's prolific strike-rate - a goal every 80 minutes last season in France - in explaining the new club record signing and the wait here was more like 80 seconds.

Sanchez in particular has been the subject of intense speculation about his future amid reported interest from the big-spending duo of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

For the first time since 1997, Arsenal are going into a season without Champions League football and Wenger has pledged to rest players in the Europa League.

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare is confident of retaining all the players he wants to keep in his squad but is wary of approaches from rivals as the transfer window enters its final weeks.

Arsenal's Olivier Giroud celebrates scoring their fourth goal against Leicester City, London, August 11, 2017. Laurent Koscielny is banned, while Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are fitness doubts.

But, the Gunners have won twenty-three matches in the last season, but they had only six draws in the list. Alexis Sanchez may be leaving.

Unsurprisingly it takes Manchester United and Manchester City stars Paul Pogba and Sergio Aguero less than one complete match to buy the average property in Manchester.

"He's young, he's a good goalscorer, you see that he can link play up, his all-around game", said Shakespeare.

"You've got the season ahead to look forward to and everyone's raring to go", said captain Wes Morgan.
