GoDaddy tells neo-Nazi site behind Virginia rally to find another domain”

The Daily Stormer has been called the "top hate site in America".

Amy Siskin, Twitter user, made an appeal to GoDaddy to remove the site in a post which has been shared over 5,000 times, saying: "You host The Daily Stormer - they posted this on their site".

The web hosting and service providing company GoDaddy issued a 24-hour notice to the Daily Stormer, after the white supremacist website posted an article denigrating Heather Heyer, 32, who was killed at a neo-Nazi rally in Virginia on Sunday. While GoDaddy's action is laudable, it's also important to note that activists, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, began calling on GoDaddy to stop providing Daily Stormer's domain several months ago.

The company said the article violated its terms and conditions and has told the Daily Stormer, the self-proclaimed "World's Most Genocidal Republican Website" to find a new provider.

"WE HAVE TAKEN THIS SITE IN THE NAME OF HEATHER HEYER", the post read, adding she was "A VICTIM OF WHITE SUPREMACIST TERRORISM". Instead, the hacking collective suggested it might be an elaborate stunt by The Daily Stormer and its publisher, Andrew Anglin. Hours after the statement, a post on The Stormer said it had been taken over by hacktivist group Anonymous.

Nonetheless, the leading Anonymous Twitter account denounced the hijack, claiming no Anonymous member had officially taken credit, and The Daily Stormer might have been behind its own hack.

Anglin didn't respond to a request for comment.
