NBC's Tirico Replaces Hicks on Notre Dame Games

NBC's Tirico Replaces Hicks on Notre Dame Games”

Mike Tirico on Monday was named the new voice of Notre Dame football on NBC, his latest high-profile assignment since joining the network previous year.

Tirico had done play-by-play for some Notre Dame Games last season so Hicks could concentrate on the FedEx Cup, the $10 million culmination of the PGA's season-long championship points race.

Veteran NBC play-by-play voice Mike Tirico will join Notre Dame football coverage this fall alongside analyst Doug Flutie and reporter Kathryn Tappen.

Tirico did three games in 2016 as he shifted over to NBC from ESPN.

NBC's first Notre Dame game will be September 2 against Temple. This May, Tirico was named NBC's play-by-play voice for NBC's "Thursday Night Football", primetime television's No. 2 show.

He succeeds Dan Hicks, who will focus on the FedExCup and President's Cup golf and skiing in advance of the Winter Olympics.

The network also announced that former National Football League quarterback Chris Simms, son of former Giants quarterback and current CBS studio analyst Phil Simms, will work as a studio analyst on Notre Dame games. The program airs on NBC Sports Radio, a joint venture between NBC Sports Group and Westwood One, weekdays from 6-9 a.m. ET, and simulcasts on NBCSN from 7-9 a.m. Simms will also make weekly appearances on programs across the NBC Sports Regional Networks.

The Bulldogs kick off their 2017 campaign with a game against Appalachian State on Saturday, Sept. 2.
