Sanchez out as Arsenal face injury crisis ahead of season opener

Sanchez out as Arsenal face injury crisis ahead of season opener”

Quizzed on whether the French champions had made an approach for Sanchez, Wenger said: "No".

Alexis Sanchez will miss at least the first two games of the Premier League season for Arsenal, with coach Arsene Wenger saying the absence is due to injury rather than doubts surrounding the forward's future at the club.

Sanchez in particular has been the subject of intense speculation about his future amid reported interest from the big-spending duo of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

But they will come under more pressure if Barcelona submit another bid.

However, Chelsea have loaned out over 20 players this summer and sold Nemanja Matic, Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah and Bertrand Traore.

Alexis Sanchez put the cat amongst the pigeons on Sunday - by sending out a tweet which revealed his location to be Paris.

"He has just one year left on his contract but Arsenal refusing to let him go".

For the first time since 1997, Arsenal are going into a season without Champions League football and Wenger has pledged to rest players in the Europa League.

"That is a continuation of what I said at the end of the season".

Wenger also dismissed media reports linking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with rivals Chelsea. "He is on the way up and he will continue to move up because that potential is there", Wenger said. "He will not play at Stoke either".

"He is today very conscious of his qualities as well, which he was not always, and I personally believe he will be a very great player".

Petr Cech of Arsenal and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger celebrate with the trophy following the The FA Community Shield final between Chelsea and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on August 6, 2017 in London, England.

Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, who missed the Community Shield on Sunday with injuries, both trained on Thursday but may not be ready to line up on Friday.

"I can take a gamble on one, maybe maximum two, but I focus more on the players who had the right number of competitive minutes in recent weeks".
