Sri Lanka set to play T20I against Pakistan

Sri Lanka set to play T20I against Pakistan”

Other cricket boards were urged by Sumathipala to bring an end to the drought and bring global cricket back home to Pakistan.

Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala wants his team to tour Pakistan for the first time since their bus was attacked by gunmen in Lahore. We have had our security expert's visit and make an assessment, and things look positive, with things improving and especially Lahore being cleared (to host an global tie).

"We have three T20s coming up against Pakistan in September and we would like to play at least one of those games in Lahore", Sumathipala said.

Sri Lanka are now playing India in the third and final Test at Pallekele.

"I call upon each one of you as members to play your role and give Pakistan the security of your support".

"This is a historic decision", Sethi said.

The PCB head said that he had held "fruitful talks" with Sumathipala on the sidelines of the Colombo summit and added that preparations to stage one or two T20 matches in Lahore will begin soon.

That Sri Lanka, who were the unfortunate victims that led to all this, are themselves ready to tour Pakistan should only serve as great news and prove once again that sport has the power to unite us all and cut across boundaries.

Any tour would require government approval before the team is sent overseas.

Pakistan has played most of its home global matches in the United Arab Emirates in the last eight years due to the security situation.

Since that attack, only one full member - Zimbabwe, toured Pakistan for a limited overs tour back in 2015.

Ever since 2009, Pakistan has been left at a severe disadvantage as a result of not being able to play their home matches in Pakistan.

With the success of the incident-free Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore back in March, it was expected that worldwide cricket would be reestablished in the nation again.

After the doors of global cricket opened for Pakistan earlier this year after successfully hosting the finals of PSL's second edition in Lahore, Pakistan is now scheduled to host an ICC World XI team next month for a three-match series.
