Nando's are giving away free chicken to leaving certs students”

"The teachers who taught Leaving Cert courses will be as eager as their students to find out their results and many of them will be in the school on Wednesday morning to offer their support". It will also be open on Monday 21 (8am to 7pm ); Tuesday 22 (8am to 7pm ); and Wednesday 23 (8am to 1pm ), after the release of CAO Round One offers. The Helpline receives thousands of calls every year, giving expert advice to students to enable them to make informed choices about their future career paths and further education.

Those seeking advice, information or reassurance can contact the Helpline on 1800 265 165 and speak to experienced guidance counsellors.

And whether avoiding parents or lining stomachs before a night on the town, the restaurant wants to welcome students for a celebratory meal.

"On August 17 anyone picking up their A-Level (or equivalent) results will be able to grab themselves a free ¼ chicken or Firestarter* on that day", a Nando's spokesperson said. "No matter how prepared students are, this can be a very confusing and stressful time for them and their families and talking to a professional can really help".

"We need much more innovation and diversity in the modes of assessment to encourage better student learning", said Prof Nolan at the launch of the National Parents' Council Post-Primary (NPCpp) Exam 2017 Helpline.

Prof Nolan headed the universities task force on the reform of the points scale, which is being implemented this year, along with a restructuring of the exam grading system.
