Govt taking all necessary actions to restore Bellandur Lake, says Siddaramaiah

Govt taking all necessary actions to restore Bellandur Lake, says Siddaramaiah”

Streams of effluents from various factories and sewage, including human waste from residences in the area which find their ways into these lakes are thought to be responsible for the water to become highly toxic and spew froths.

The wave of froth was high enough to engulf a two-storied building, reported Times of India quoting a resident.

After incessant rains in the city since Monday, the froth has started to scare the residents living around the lake. The record overnight rain in the state on August 15, once again led to the problem. The people couldn't stand the smell much long and due to foamy road can't drive the vehicle properly.

NDTV reports that the foam in the Varthur Lake rose to over 10-feet in height and spilled over a fence built around the lake to stop the foam from flowing onto the streets. In the past, this froth has also resulted in a fire causing alarm for residents and environmentalists.

Cars virtually disappeared into plumes of foam on a road adjacent to the Bellandur Lake.

The green court has asked the Karnataka Government to clean the lake within a month.

Commenting on the situation, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the problem will be solved in one or two years and the government is taking all necessary actions.

The sorry state of the lake forced the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to take the matter suo moto.

"What is this going on?" There are traffic jams which further leads to air pollution. You can't do this. "It will be solved within 1 or 2 years", Siddaramaiah told news agency ANI.
