Haley: Trump 'listened to his generals' before deciding on Afghan plan”

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley is interviewed by CNN's Chris Cuomo about President Trump's Afghanistan strategy and why the country was not included in the travel ban. "What you saw was he listened to his generals".

"Citizen, and even candidate Trump, would've hated that speech last night because he was the complete opposite mindset than what you're laying out right now", said Cuomo.

Ms. Haley also reacted to President Trump's speech Wednesday that renewed America's military commitment in Afghanistan.

"I'm just very proud of the leadership of President Donald Trump as commander in chief", Pence said. "We're not talking about duration, because we're not focused on time".

"Anyone that goes and tries to spew hate on someone because of their color or their religion, or their place in life, that's terribly wrong, and it's something that we don't stand for in America", said Haley. "What we are focused on is results, stomping out terrorism, doing whatever it takes".

Trump announced on Monday that he will not pull US troops out from Afghanistan.

On CNN, United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley praised Trump's "strong speech" and ability to change his mind. "But I will tell you that there is no room for hate in this country", Ms. Haley said.

"I think the President's speech was strong", she said.

But more importantly, the president's taking on a regional approach. In the past, it's always been time based, on when we were going to get out or based on the number of troops or all kinds of things.

Cuomo asked Haley why Pakistan and Afghanistan were not countries listed on the Trump administration's travel ban - to which she responded that the countries affected by the ban were based on whether they had "enough background checks". "I think he clarified the fact that there is no room for bigotry in our country, but he brought it home to the fact that if our troops are fighting overseas, and if they're fighting for our freedoms, and fighting for our rights, let's not abuse it".
