Lt Col Purohit: Have full faith in Army, was never let down”

The 2008 Malegaon blast accused Lt. Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Monday.

The Army didn't "let me down", said Purohit. The Supreme Court bench comprising Justice RK Agrawal and AM Sapre, while granting bail, said, "We set aside order of Bombay High Court".

Purohit was being tried for allegedly supllying RDX for Malegaon blast.

"I have two families-the Army and my family which includes my wife, my two sons, sister and mother". Purohit was produced before the session court in Mumbai on Tuesday and was taken back to the jail at night.

Speaking at a sessions court on Tuesday evening, Purohit had said he looked forward to re-joining the Army. The court has also ordered Purohit against threatening or enticing anyone acquainted with facts of the case.

Under suspension, he will reportedly be treated as "under open arrest", wherein usually a soldier is supposed to wear only his uniform.

Purohit said he can not wait to adorn the military uniform again. "Never even once did I feel that I was out of the Army". The army will decide. If they find that the claims I made were right, senior commanders will decide on whether they should seek action.

Two bombs planted on a motorcycle exploded in on September 29, 2008, killing seven people and injuring over a 100 in Malegaon, a textile town in Maharashtra 270 km from Mumbai.

The apex court said there were "material contradictions" in the charge sheets filed by the ATS and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which were required to be tested at the time of trial.

NIA filed second chargesheet dropping charges against Sadhvi Pragya and three others on the basis of lack of evidence.

Sadhvi Pragya has been granted relief in the case by the Bombay High Court.

Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit walked free out of jail today after spending nine years as an industrial without getting bail.
