Samsung Rolls Out Bixby

Samsung Rolls Out Bixby”

Samsung had been looking to bounce back from last year's Note 7 exploding battery disaster with a spring 2017 launch of its Galaxy S8 and Bixby, but the voice-assistant's worldwide introduction was delayed, reportedly due to glitches in understanding English.

Samsung has released its long awaited voice-activated assistant, Bixby, in Australia - but it's not completely up to date with Aussie slang.

In South Korea, the feature has 1.3 million users and has accumulated 250 million voice commands so far.

Bixby now recognizes U.S. English and Korean. Users can ask Bixby to carry out tasks such as searching through a photo album, or send a picture that has just been taken to a contact.

'Natural language understanding allows Bixby to continuously improve its ability to interpret regional dialects, ' a statement read.

"The expansion of Bixby's voice capabilities is an initial step in the continued rollout of Bixby functionality. In the future, Bixby will have the learning power to offer more intelligent and personalized interactions and seamless connections across more devices." said Injong Rhee, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Software and Services of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. That being said, it should be noted that right now despite its global availability, Bixby Voice still only recognizes US English and Korean, meaning that if you speak with heavily accented English, there is a chance you might run into some issues with Bixby Voice.
