Cordell Brown states he was arrested for arson”

Cordell Brown says he was arrested for arson in relation to the fatal fire that killed his son, Hunter Brown.

Brown's wife, Angie Tang, remains in hospital with serious injuries as a result of smoke inhalation.

A neighbor told CTV Edmonton that police appeared to handcuff Brown before taking him away in an ambulance around 7 p.m. on Friday.

Police homicide and arson units are investigating.

The father of a baby who died in a house fire says he tried to go back into his burning house three times, but couldn't get past the flames.

Brown, who said he was sleeping on the main floor of the house because it was hot, escaped the blaze along with the five tenants, including a 58-year-old man, 24-year-old Kyle Whitford, a 35-year-old woman and her two children, ages seven and five. She can't breathe on her own nor is she able to talk but can motion with her hands and head.

"Took eight of us to hold her down, she didn't take that very well and she was re-sedated", Brown said.

"Whoever started the fire, I don't know if they did it as a prank or whatever, but it's past a prank now, people, you nearly killed six or seven people, you did kill one person".

"To be honest sometimes it got annoying like you know 3:00 in the morning Squawky turns on his squawker and I'm like, "oh, god" and you wake up, and now I would do anything to be woken up at 3:00 in that morning by that squawk".

Brown said he and Tang had been trying to have a baby for about four years.

"Hunter was a fertility baby, having Hunter was a $50,000 expense", Brown said. "I'll feel better when that person is arrested".

"Mr. Brown is in challenging times right now and we have a tremendous amount of sympathy".

He also said hospital staff asked that he stop visiting his wife.

Brown told CTV Edmonton on Friday that he recently told his wife that he looks forward to rebuilding a new life together. A spokesperson at the Covenant Health Misericordia Community Hospital said that is not accurate, and he may continue to visit.

He was also arrested Saturday under the Mental Health Act but was not charged. He is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone able to provide information that would lead to an arrest.
