Jim Brown: "I don't desecrate my flag and my national anthem"

Jim Brown:

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick looks on before the national anthem against the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium.

"It's disappointing because I don't really know that there's a right way and a wrong way to approach (protesting)", Sharpe said.

While the singing of the national anthem was going on in one of the games of the previous season, Kaepernick was the first player to kneel as his way of speaking out against racial injustice.

I'm not suggesting that Hank Aaron could go and be the GM of an NFL team tomorrow or that he is some authoritative voice when it comes to a man's football skills, but (a) the guy knows more about discrimination and injustice in sports than anyone else alive; and (b) has been in a front office for almost 40 years. "But this is my country, and I'll work out the problems, but I'll do it in an intelligent manner".

Seems everyone has an opinion on Kaepernick, his protests, and his difficulty in finding work this season in the NFL.

Jim Brown says he can appreciate Colin Kaepernick's desire to fight for a righteous cause, but the Pro Football Hall of Famer and iconic social activist disagrees with his method.

"Colin Kaepernick took a knee because black kids are getting shot by the police", one letter read.

Brown said Kaepernick needed to get others to join him.

"If Colin don't play football, I will never watch football. let Colin play", one attendee said.

Brown also made the point that it is tough to balance activism while playing pro sports.

On Friday's "Real Time With Bill Maher", the Baptist minister and civil right activist says the league's team owners "have colluded" to keep Kaepernick out of professional football.

"Football is commercial", he continued. I think the thing is, things are different now. "If I sign for money, then the people I sign with, they have rules and regulations".
