Paxton Lynch to miss a couple games with shoulder injury”

Denver Broncos second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch, who recently lost a competition for the starting job, has a sprained right shoulder and will miss several weeks, according to multiple reports. Lynch will avoid surgery, but it sounds like he could be sidelined into the regular season.

Lynch suffered the injury when he was sacked during the team's 20-17 preseason win over the Packers on Saturday.

Lynch's injury will likely impact the overall roster construction, as it will nearly certainly force the Broncos to keep three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster heading into Week 1.

The Broncos are unlikely to sign a vested veteran because his entire 2017 salary would be guaranteed if he's on the roster Week 1.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph announced the diagnosis Monday, saying rookie Kyle Sloter will replace Lynch as Trevor Siemian's backup.

According to the report from Klis, some members of Denver's staff do not feel that Sloter is ready to be a regular season backup quarterback (despite his remarkable preseason).

The Broncos had interest in trading for Colin Kaepernick during the 2016 offseason.
