President Trump's Afghan policy to meet with failure, says PM Abbasi

President Trump's Afghan policy to meet with failure, says PM Abbasi”

"It has much to lose by continuing to harbor terrorists".

"For its part, Pakistan often gives safe haven to agents of chaos, violence, and terror". No partnership can survive if a country is harbouring militants and terrorist to target USA service members and officials. The Committee out rightly rejected the specific allegations and insinuations made against Pakistan. "Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan".

Pakistan's media stated that Bajwa met his Afghan counterpart Gen. Sharif Yaftali on the sidelines of a Quadrilateral Counter Terrorism Coordination Mechanism (QCCM) meeting in Tajikistan on Sunday and discussed the situation in Afghanistan. He also put Pakistan on notice it must do more. The fact remains that the complex issues and internal dynamics inside Afghanistan pose a grave challenge not only to Pakistan but to the broader region and the worldwide community. A prolonged military campaign in Afghanistan has resulted in destruction and killing of hundreds of thousands of Afghan civilians. He reassured the Afghan side that Pakistan is open to any suggestion that facilitate peace in Afghanistan.

"But, certainly there is an expectation that we'll start to see some changes in the very near future", the official said when asked if the Trump administration has set a time line for progress in action being taken by Pakistan against the terrorist groups.

The US commander said the issue of terrorist sanctuaries outside Afghanistan was serious and needed to be addressed. "The Afghan war can not be fought in Pakistan". The demonstrated security improvement inside Pakistan would not have been possible without eliminating all terrorist hideouts. "Our commitment to war against terrorism is unmatched and unshaken".

Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Bajwa has told the American ambassador that his country is not looking for material or financial assistance from the US.

"In the past, it's always been time based on when we were going to get out, or based on the number of troops or based on all kinds of things".

One day after President Donald Trump unveiled a new strategy to force the Taliban to negotiate a political settlement with the Kabul government, his top diplomat upped the heat on Islamabad. The threat is worse because Pakistan and India are two nuclear-armed states whose tense relations threaten to spiral into conflict. The Committee expressed deep concern at Indian policies inimical to peace in the region including interference in the internal affairs of neighbouring countries and using terrorism as an instrument of state policy.
