Silverstone Moto2: Nakagami scores win as Marquez crashes”

Taka Nakagami produced a flawless ride to claim the second win of his Moto2 career under the sunny skies of Silverstone from Mattia Pasini and Franco Morbidelli.

It was the Estrella Galicia Marc VDS machines of Alex Marquez and Morbidelli who had the early lead with Marquez looking strong until a return to old ways saw him crash out of the lead.

Morbidelli now leads Luthi in the series standings by 29 points with Alex Marquez third. That left Morbidelli in control, until Nakagami caught and passed the Italian.

Nakagami scored his second win in Moto2, his first in a year as he last won in last year's Assen race.

Lüthi took fourth and made a considerable move up from ninth on the grid, and crucially crossed the line only one place behind key title rival Morbidelli.

Francesco Bagnaia claimed fifth for Sky VR46 ahead of Speed Up's Simone Corsi while Stefano Manzi produced another stand-out Silverstone performance.

Stefano Manzi (Sky Racing Team VR46) had an incredible race for his best result yet in the intermediate class, taking seventh and once again showing serious pace at Silverstone to follow on from his performance in Moto3™ at the venue previous year.

KTM's Miguel Oliveira was only 0.061s behind, with team-mate Brad Binder and Kiefer Suter's Dominique Aegerter completing the top ten.

Marquez got a lightning quick start from the middle of the front row and was the early pace setter, Marquez and Morbidelli were lapping on lap record pace before settling in with the duo sat around three seconds ahead of Nakagami.

British wildcard Jake Dixon took a highly-creditable 25th place on his debut in the class while Tarran Mackenzie slipped off but re-joined to finish in 30th.
