Ticket resale website Viagogo a no-go-go for Com Games

Ticket resale website Viagogo a no-go-go for Com Games”

In April this year consumer group Choice launched an global survey of the ticket resale market, revealing ticket price mark-ups of up to 327 per cent at range of platforms including Viagogo, Ticketmaster Resale Australia and StubHub.

Authorities in the United Kingdom, the U.S. and Switzerland are also believed to be investigating.

Along with failing to properly disclose fees, the ACCC also said Viagogo misled consumers with warnings such as "less than 1% of tickets remaining" which did not make clear that they were only in reference to the Viagogo site and not all ticket outlets.

NSW Better Regulation Minister Matt Kean said an estimated 600 customers had lost about $130,000.

PEOPLE who plan to attend events are being warned to be wary of an online ticket reseller now the subject of nearly 50 fair trading complaints - and more than 200 complaints nationwide - for allegedly ripping off buyers.

The Swiss-based ticket exchange platform was the eighth most complained about business on the Fair Trading Complaints Register in the past year, the subject of 165 complaints and 237 inquiries.

NSW Fair Trading tried to contact Viagogo 194 times to discuss the complaints but the site had been unresponsive until it was given notice of a public warning.

Viagogo launched in Australia in late 2013.

The Queensland Office of Fair Trading has received 49 complaints from consumers about Viagogo, with 43 coming in the last 12 months, Ms D'Ath.

"Claims of hidden fees and charges are common", Mrs D'Ath said.

Adele, Midnight Oil and Paul McCartney concerts as well as the State of Origin have been among the problems and again, Viagogo ignored Queensland officials. He told Seven News "they allow Viagogo to advertise", he said. It's illegal to resell or buy resold tickets for more than 10% above face value for events at Queensland's major venues.

Rickard says the ACCC is also concerned the use of the word "official" in Viagogo's advertising and online promotions might "trick a lot of consumers", alleging the ticket reseller was further misleading consumers by placing itself as an official ticket seller.

"We allege that Viagogo failed to disclose significant and unavoidable fees upfront in the ticket price, including a 27.6 per cent booking fee for most events and a handling fee", said ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard.

He eventually received a refund after the fraud was pointed out to Viagogo.
