North Korea apparently conducts another nuclear test, South Korea says”

North Korean state media released photos Sunday of the new nuclear warhead the country intends to load into its new intercontinental ballistic missile.

He said the worldwide community "must treat this new provocation with the utmost firmness" to bring North Korea back to the path of dialogue and give up its nuclear and missile programmes.

Experts said North Korea may have tested a "boosted" atomic bomb.

The Korea Meteorological Administration initially put the scale of the quake at magnitude 5.7. and said that the seismic wave was recorded at 12.36 p.m.

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously voted to tighten sanctions that targeted about a third of North Korea's $3 billion in exports.

North Korea's nuclear and missile program has made huge strides since Kim rose to power following his father's death in late 2011.

The United States and other nations have not confirmed the veracity of North Korea's claim.

"Referring to tens to hundreds of kilotons, it doesn't appear to be talking about a fully fledged H-bomb". Hours earlier, Pyongyang claimed its leader had inspected a hydrogen bomb meant for a new intercontinental ballistic missile.

North Korea's latest claim on a hydrogen bomb could not be verified. It is seeking to develop a nuclear weapon small enough to be mounted on an ICBM.

In its report, KCNA (via Xinhua, China's official news agency) also said the North Korean leader "guided the work for nuclear weaponization on the spot", as part of "the final-stage research and development for perfecting the state nuclear force".

In hydrogen bombs, fusion - the merging of atoms - is used to unleash energy, whereas atomic bombs use nuclear fission, or the splitting of atoms.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, speaking by phone Saturday, stressed the need for a close cooperation between their two countries and South Korea in the face of a growing nuclear threat from North Korea, according to a White House statement.

He also was quoted as saying that all components of the hydrogen bomb were "100 percent domestically made".

A second quake event measuring 4.6 magnitude detected by the China natural disaster Networks Center on Sunday may have been a tunnel collapse, a USA quake monitoring service said.

President Moon Jae-in convened a National Security Council (NSC) session Sunday, shortly after South Korea's weather agency detected a magnitude 5.7 quake from North Korea's nuclear test site in a sign of another strategic provocation.

The second natural disaster occurred around one kilometer northwest from the location North Korea appears to have conducted its sixth nuclear test, the USGS data shows.

North Korea claimed in January a year ago to have tested a miniaturized hydrogen bomb, also known as a thermonuclear device, but outside experts were skeptical, suggesting it could have been a "boosted device", an atomic bomb that uses some hydrogen isotopes to increase its explosive yield.

South Korea has refuted a news report that there was a second quake near North Korea's nuclear test site.

But North Korea boasted about its nuclear missile program in Sunday's report, saying it has the know-how and materials to make as many weapons as it wants. The North regularly threatens to destroy the South and its main ally, the United States.
