Air India plane overshoot, veers off taxiway at Kochi airport”

Passengers on board an Air India Express aircraft coming from Abu Dhabi had a miraculous escape today morning as it veered off the taxiway at the Kochi airport in Kerala.

All 102 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from the Abu Dhabi-Kochi flight with the help of a ladder.

According to airport sources, the incident occurred because the plane had made a premature turn.

The incident was reported at around 2:40 AM when the Abu Dhabi-Kochi Air India Express IX 452 landed at the Kochi airport and approached the taxiway.

Due to the aircraft rolling into the drain, the nose-wheel of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft collapsed and both engine turbines have also reportedly been damaged. All passengers and crew exited from the doors by normal step ladder and there were no injuries to passengers or crew, they said. "All safe. No casualties", a Cochin International Airport Limited spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The Director General of Civil Aviation has initiated a probe into the incident.

Last week, an Air India flight set for take-off to San Francisco was delayed by more than nine hours over a rat loose on the plane.
