Botched breast surgery leads to manslaughter charges for Chinese tourist”

A Chinese tourist with no Australian medical license has been charged with manslaughter after police say she gave a woman an anaesthetic during a procedure at a Sydney beauty clinic last week and the woman later died. However, Huang never recovered and died at the hospital two days later.

She had studied at the Guangdong Medical University, specialising in dermatology, and had worked in Great Britain and China.

Beauty salon owner Jean Huang was allegedly injected with three different substances including a restricted substance called hyaluronic acid.

Her lawyer refused to comment outside the court on Ms Shao's condition in custody.

Jie Shao appeared in court today.

Shao had only been in Australia for five days and was on a tourist visa.

Prosecutors allege Jie Shao, 33, administered an incorrect dose of anaesthetic while performing the surgery. Huang met Jie through friends and agreed to have her perform the procedure.

Shao will remain behind bars and is due to return to court on October 31.

According to court documents, Jie injected Huang with an "intoxicating substance" of tramadol, a painkiller, and Lidocaine, a numbing agent.

She denied Ms Shao bail, saying there was an unacceptable risk she would interfere with witnesses or "endanger" the community.
