Democrats slam the end of DACA, while Republicans are mixed

Democrats slam the end of DACA, while Republicans are mixed”

His action drew swift criticism from many immigration advocates and Democratic lawmakers. But this action on DACA to pull the rug out from under nearly 800,000 documented immigrants who have lived here for at least ten years and cast them back into the shadows is the ugliest act of appeasement for the far-right's white-supremacist goals of them all, so far.

"That will offset the negative consequences of giving legal status to the DACA recipients", Cotton said, adding, "I don't think a good deal would be temporary funding for the wall for a permanent DACA".

Our question is, should illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors be permitted to stay in the U.S.? It's just that simple.

Trump said on Friday, "We love the Dreamers".

In a statement issued by the White House, Trump said, "I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. This does not mean they're bad people or our nation disrespects or demeans them in any way, we are properly enforcing our laws as Congress has passed them", said Sessions.

There are DACA supporters on both sides of the political aisle in the US, but key members of Trump's inner circle - including Attorney General Jeff Sessions - and many Republican members of Congress are vocal opponents who have criticized the program's creation as executive overreach. It protects those brought into the country illegally as children.

But Congress has been unable since the president took office in January to pass any major legislation and has been bitterly divided over immigration in the past.

Obama bypassed Congress and created DACA through an executive order in 2012.

Many of these students, often known as "dreamers", are shielded from deportation through a federal program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

DACA beneficiaries whose status expires between now and March 5 can apply for renewal by October 5.

DACA provides protections for some young people who were brought to our country illegally when they were children.

Trump appeared determined to pressure US lawmakers to act. And that's enshrine these DACA protections in law.

The repeal effort has worsened what was already a tense relationship between President Trump and the business community.

As a movement, we will not go away, back down or give up because the President has taken this callous and destructive action.

There are about 800,000 people who could be deported since they entered the US illegally as children, ABC News reported.

Read: What is DACA and why does Trump want to end it? . The ultimatum issued by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and nine other state attorneys general threatened that if the administration did not rescind DACA by then, they would challenge it in an unfriendly court.

The decision was greeted on Tuesday with ongoing protests and arrests of activists at Trump Tower. "We don't know what's going to happen", she said. "It's not lawful. The president can not make immigration policy by himself", Cotton said.

"There will be lots of members of Congress falling all over themselves to create an amnesty program, but they will include only token enforcement measures without cuts in legal immigration", said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Centre for Immigration Studies, a group that has pushed to reduce both legal and illegal immigration to the US.

Immigrants and activists around the country took to the streets Tuesday for a second day of protests in reaction to the Trump administration's decision to end an Obama-era program that has shielded almost 800,000 young people from deportation.
