Drink-drive Sky Sports host Kirsty Gallacher handed ban

Drink-drive Sky Sports host Kirsty Gallacher handed ban”

The Sky Sports presenter was charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle while her alcohol level was above the legal limit.

She was banned from driving for two years and told she would have to complete 100 hours of community work.

The 41-year-old beauty was stopped by police last month after she was caught driving erratically in Eton, Berkshire, and was later arrested when she blew nearly three times over the legal limit on breathalyser test following a night of boozing the day before.

Best known for hosting shows including "Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway", "The Games" and Sky's reboot of "Gladiators", Kirsty returned to Sky Sports as a presenter in 2010, having first got her presenting gig on the channel in 1998. She had driven to meet her children in Eton the following morning, but was not planning to take them in her auto, defence lawyer Jennifer Dempster told the court.

Kirsty was breathalysed at the scene and the results revealed that she had 106micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35micrograms.

Gallacher was earlier pictured looking sad as she arrived at court dressed all in black.

"She does not have a drink problem".

Gallacher was "stressed" by the divorce proceedings, the court heard. This is in many senses unintentional drink-driving.

"There are difficulties arising from the breakdown of her marriage, the final hearing for which is next week".

He said: "There was no intention to drive while over the limit. She is very remorseful and apologises".

Ms Dempster also stressed that Gallacher's two young children had not been in her vehicle.

District Judge Davinder Lachhar was unmoved however, saying: "Here you are, at 11am on public roads with such a high reading".

"I am going to impose a 12 month community order of 100 hours of unpaid work, you must pay £85 prosecution costs and you are disqualified from driving for two years".
