Mom donates over 1000 oz. of breast milk to Harvey victims

Mom donates over 1000 oz. of breast milk to Harvey victims”

She found a unique way to help other families who lost everything after Harvey.

So when Truett's speech therapist suggested donating some milk to the mothers and babies affected by the floods, Palmer realized they were asking the right woman. Edwin reached out to Palmer knowing she had an oversupply.

"I can't imagine being in a situation where you're losing everything and just the fear of all of that", said Palmer via a Skype interview with News 4. Beauty can come from this.

Danielle Palmer of Owensville had an excess of bottled breast milk ready to serve up to her son, Truett - but when she saw the devastation in Texas she knew she had to help out other mothers. She proudly packed up a cooler full.

"We gave 1,040 ounces, and we figured that up, if a normal baby gets three ounces, that's 346 feedings", Palmer told KMOV St. Louis.

Throughout her son's struggle, Danielle continued to pump and store what Truett wouldn't take. For a big chunk of his life, he was unable to take my milk.

When it comes to premature babies, medical experts say nothing is more nutritional than breast milk.

On being approached palmer gladly filled a cooler with nearly 30 litres of milk that will go to mums who lost their frozen supply due to power cuts, whose pumps got lost in the flood waters, or who just aren't able to produce right now.

"With breast feeding, stress plays a big role in your supply". If you become stressed, your supply will drop, ' Palmer said. But according to a Facebook post from Palmer, she recently came up with a solution for all the milk she's been storing in her freezer - donate it to families in Houston who've been affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The milk will undergo testing and be distributed to moms in need. Mothers should also make sure the donors are healthy.

The CDC website notes that while breast milk can transmit HIV and other infectious diseases, the risk from a single bottle of milk is low.

"We have each other's backs".

"We know that babies that are in the neonatal intensive care unit do so much better if they recover an all-human milk diet". "Whether you're pumping or feeding or however it may be, it's hard". And we're like momma bears. "We protect one another", said Palmer. She said she hoped this story would help normalize breastfeeding, but also noted that it's important not to discredit moms who can't or choose not to breastfeed.
