More than half of voters think Trump is 'tearing the country apart'”

Almost three in every four Americans see President Donald Trump as a "bully" on some level, according to a new Fox News Poll.

The poll, released Wednesday evening, offered a dismal view of Trump's performance in the wake of his response to racially-charged violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this month. Forty-four percent said "unstable" was a fitting adjective for Trump. Another 11% said they didn't know.

"For past presidents, the traits that correlate most powerfully with increased support are "strong leader" and 'compassionate, '" says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Democratic counterpart Chris Anderson. Just 27 percent of Americans said they would "not at all" describe the country's commander in chief as a "bully".

Most people believe Trump is dealing with race issues worst, with a staggering 66% of voters disapproving of his behaviour, and only 33% in favour.

The poll was conducted after Trump's controversial pardon of Joe Arpaio, a former Arizona sheriff convicted for defying a court order to stop racially profiling Latinos.

Despite being a Fox News poll, an organisation long associated as being the president's favourite news platform, the poll results show that overall 41% of participants approve of Trump, whilst over half disapprove of his actions as president (55%). The poll suggests that Donald Trump's net approval rating is -15%, with 38% of Americans approving of the president and 53% disapproving.

More recently, the Huffington Post has said that Donald Trump has suggested that a government shut-down could follow if money is not provided to pay for the wall.

Just 34 percent of Republican supporters indicated that they approved of the way Trump carries himself as president, with 46 percent indicating that they have mixed feelings.
