NIA arrests two notorious stone pelters from J&K

NIA arrests two notorious stone pelters from J&K”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 5 September summoned Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoom on 6 September at the Delhi Headquarters in connection with the terror-funding case.

In the summon, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Observer, the NIA states that Qayoom was required to appear before it as he's "acquainted" with the circumstances of the case-RC 10/2017/ NIA/DLI under IPC sections of 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war), 121A (conspiracy of waging war) and 13, 16, 17,18,20, 38, and 40 of UA (P) Act, registered at NIA Police Station, New Delhi.

"The summon has been issued to Kashmir Bar president for the goal of answering certain questions relating to case RC 10/2017/ NIA/DLI, 120B, 121, 121A of IPC and 134, 16, 17,18,20, 38, and 40 of UA (P) Act", they said.

A top lawyer, Qayoom is considered a separatist ideologue and a key aide to hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The KHCBA and Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), an amalgam of various trade organisations, have condemned the move, alleging that it was aimed at persecuting the Kashmiri leadership for its espousing the "cause" of the people.

According to the NIA sources, the people from Jammu and Kashmir will be summoned in the coming days.

The association has made a decision to hold a general body meeting on Tuesday to chalk out the future course of action.

In show of solidarity, all the district and "mufassil bar associations" of the Valley have also chose to abstain from court work on September 5, a spokesman of the lawyer's body said.

Qayoom had been arrested on several occasions in past for his separatist ideology. He was released after spending nine months in detention. Also arrested by the NIA was Aftab Hilali Shah alias Shahid-ul-Islam who is the media advisor/ secretary to another prominent separatist leader and Kashmir's Chief Muslim cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The two sons of Geelani, Naeem Geelani and Zahoor Geelani, have been summoned by the investigative agency. NIA also found that the majority of the stone pelting organisers posted pictures of terrorists, including Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa, with some using Wani's picture as their profile photo in their Facebook profiles while some openly declare that they "worked at stone pelting" or were "born to stone pelting (sic)".
