Nuzman Home Raided By Brazilian Police”

Police in Rio raided the home of Brazil's Olympics chief, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, after prosecutors accused him of conspiring with former state Governor Sergio Cabral, already convicted in a separate corruption case, to buy the games.

The headquarters of Brazil's Olympic Committee was also raided as part of an operation named Unfair Play.

"The state will start to come back to normality", Meirelles said, adding that the plan could be extended beyond the initial three years if necessary, as Brazil emerges from itsworst recession on record.

Schneider said the Games had been used as a "trampoline" for corruption.

Brazilian Federal police working alongside French investigators have searched the house of Carlos Nuzman today as part of an investigation into the bidding process for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games awarded to Rio de Janeiro.

"The investigations revealed a large-scale system of corruption around Papa Massata Diack, son of Lamine Diack, IAAF president and influential members of the International Olympic Committee", confirmed the French Prosecutors Office today.

Nuzman's lawyer, Sergio Mazzillo, told reporters outside the house that his client would cooperate but was innocent of any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors suspect the same arrangement also took place in works for the 2014 World Cup, which Brazil hosted.

Nuzman will testify before the Brazilian Federal Police and surrender his passport according to Folha.

O Globo says a warrant has been issued for Soares's arrest. One of them was in Paris, French authorities said.

Prosecutor Fabiana Schneider told a press conference that Soares, known in Brazil as "King Arthur", allegedly bribed the son of Senegalese IOC member Lamine Diack before the 2009 vote in which Rio beat Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo to win the 2016 Games.

Rio de Janeiro defeated Madrid in a landslide for the right to host the 2016 Olympics, securing 66 of 98 votes in the final round of International Olympic Committee voting, and Rio 2016 organizers have long denied any wrongdoing.

On Tuesday, Andrada declined to comment.

The spokesman underscored that Papa Massata Diack never held any position within the International Olympic Committee and that his father lost his honorary membership in late 2015.
