Pokemon CEO Told Nintendo That Switch Would Be Unsuccessful

Pokemon CEO Told Nintendo That Switch Would Be Unsuccessful”

"Nintendo always strives to offer consumers something fun, new and different", said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's President and COO said.

Ishihara is relieved that he was wrong, since the Switch is a huge success in Japan and the rest of the world.

Ishihara announced a core Pokemon RPG for Switch at E3 this year, which will undoubtedly be one of the system's biggest games upon release.

Speaking to Bloomberg on the future of Pokémon, Ishihara said that Niantic and Pokemon have "only accomplished 10 percent" of what they intend to do during the partnership.

Tsunekazu Ishihara told Bloomberg: "I told Nintendo that Switch wouldn't be a success before it went on sale, because I thought that in the age of the smartphone, no one would carry out a game console". He went on to admit that he was wrong and that he realized if the software is attractive enough and flexible then it would sell quite easily. "I see more potential in Switch, but one shouldn't overestimate its potential".

The Pokémon Company's chief executive has gone on the record to say he didn't think the Nintendo Switch would be a hit, and this is a fun story going around right now because, of course, the console is setting sales records.

"We see [the Switch] as a chance to create Pokemon that goes deeper and with a higher level of expression. So from our perspective, it's really not that different from DS or 3DS in terms of connectivity".

Ishihara stated that at present, the Pokemon team is using a 7- to 8-inch screen, but on a high definition TV, it would be a whole new game with exclusive graphics and sounds. "As a result, that makes it an extremely important platform", he explained.

Of course, he ended up being very wrong on that front, as the console has been very successful so far and is on track to almost match the lifetime sales of the Wii U in its first year alone.
