Telstra overhauls mobile plans ahead of iPhone 8 launch

"Through our partnership with Foxtel Now, we're putting the world's best entertainment in our customers' hands and delivering an fantastic streaming experience, on Australia's best mobile network", said Michael Simpson, executive director of Telstra mobile products.

Foxtel Now streaming will still count towards data limits, but Telstra has increased the standard data included in all post-paid plans. That's good news for anyone who's been guzzling data by watching "Game of Thrones" on their commute.

Telstra offers 12 month Foxtel Now for free to compete with other telcos in the lead up to the new iPhone and Note 8 releases. Customers can develop a customised entertainment experience by choosing from five starter packs - Pop, Drama, Docos, Kids and Lifestyle.

If you're interested in Telstra's latest offering, it's worth noting that although SIM-only plans are 12-month contracts, you will have to sign up to a 24-month contract if you're also after a handset.

For pre-paid customers, the big news is that Telstra Pre-Paid Extra customers can bank up to 50GB of unused data when recharging $30 or more before expiry. All Go Mobile Plus plans also include data-free streaming of Apple Music.

And customers recharging $40 or above on Telstra Pre-Paid Extra will also receive unlimited global calls from Australia to standard worldwide numbers in 10 selected destinations and, until 26 February, 2018, this also includes Vietnam, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Along with the new Foxtel Now offer, Telstra has changed the pricing and structure of all of its plans, adding some extreme options such as the "premium" $199 a month, 100GB post-paid plan with a handset.
