Terror cell dismantled with Moroccan authorities help, six arrested: Spain interior ministryā€¯

Officers made arrests in Melilla - a Spanish city on the north coast of Africa - and Morocco. This operation came weeks after the attacks on Barcelona and Cambrils where 16 people were killed and over 100 others wounded.

The Spanish National Police said the cell held "nightly meetings" where they would plan "major terrorists attacks".

A similar statement issued by the Moroccan interior ministry and quoted by MAP news agency, referred to group members "training how to slit throats with knives".

Security forces in Spain and nearby Morocco have broken up an alleged Daesh-linked extremist cell whose six members were actively training and planning to conduct "large-scale attacks", authorities said Wednesday.

The 39-year-old suspect whose name was not disclosed, took advantage of his job as an educational assistant at a juvenile rehabilitation and rejuvenation centre to carry out recruitment and indoctrination activities.

Five of the suspects are Moroccan nationals, one of whom had residency in Spain, while the sixth was a Spanish national of Moroccan origin, it said. He allegedly recruited youngsters at a reeducation center where he worked and used Daesh group propaganda to train them, the ministry said in a statement.
