Hurricane Irma: NFL postpones Dolphins-Buccaneers game

Hurricane Irma: NFL postpones Dolphins-Buccaneers game”

The Miami Dolphins will not play their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home on Sunday due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irma on South Florida, the National Football League said on Tuesday. The NFL's decision to cancel the game and move it to November 19th is smart and safe but for the Dolphins, it's a delay in home field advantage.

The impending clash of Hurricane Irma on Florida's southern coast has caused a Week 1 matchup between the Buccaneers and Dolphins to either be moved to a later date or new location.

Though, rescheduling the game is helped by the fact that both teams have the same bye week. The NFL decided against switching the game to Thursday night in Miami.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase says the team is practicing as though they are playing the game "somewhere sometime this week".

"I want to play today if we could", Miami receiver Jarvis Landry said.

Last year, Steen started seven games for the Dolphins as he played mostly at center.

Irma is forecast to be a major hurricane as it approaches Florida late this week.

"A lot these guys have a lot on their plate - moving their families, and you've got people coming in, and your house and your cars", said Cutler, who joined the team a month ago.
