Nagpur woman dumped in suitcase in Karnataka after being raped and killed”

The youths have also confessed to having raped her.

The Karnataka and the Maharashtra police are jointly investigating the case.

The accused have been identified as 24-year-old Niklesh Patil and 25-year-old Akshay Valode. However, in the night, they chose to halt at the co-accused, Akshay Valode's Ambernath residence on the outskirts of Mumbai, police added.

Mumbai: Daughter of a sub-inspector in Nagpur was brutally raped and killed in Ambarnath by two of her friends on September 4. However, when she threatened to report them to the police, they killed her. Acting on the driver's complaint, the Ratnagiri police immediately managed to arrest two of the accused and brought them to Belagavi on Wednesday evening. We are also looking into the role of Patil's friend Nilesh Khobragade (38) in whose vehicle the woman's body was transported.

Four teams have been formed to probe the case.

After speaking to police from Ambernath and Belagavi, as well as friends of the victim, TOI pieced the sordid tale together. Patil knew her from Nagpur.

According to reports, Ankita who works in Mumbai had gone to Pune at the behest of a friend to attend a party on Sunday. It is not exactly known where she met Patil. The woman, Patil and Khobragade then left for Mumbai and late in the night, stopped at Valode's residence in Ambernath (E). When he started asking the two about the woman, they confessed to the crime, said D Godbole, senior police inspector of the ShivajiNagar police station.

"Scared at the prospect of police arrest, the duo caught her mouth and strangled her to death".

The accused later packed the body of the IT engineer in a suitcase and dumped it near Belgaum in neighbouring Karnataka, police revealed on Thursday. Khobragade was allegedly in the dark about the rape and murder. The case has now been transferred to the Thane police. On Tuesday, while returning, they surrendered at City Police Station in Ratnagiri and narrated the entire incident following which the police recovered the body. This triggered suspicion in Nilesh, who reportedly informed the police.
