Need to rebuild relationship between our countries, says India's ambassador to Myanmar”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday justified "note ban", which has come in for criticism, asserting that his government was not afraid of taking "big" and "tough" decisions in the interest of the country. PM Modi will visit Ananda Temple and the Bagan Viewing Tower and will address the Indian community later in the day. The Myanmar government is facing global censure for the violence against the minority community, and its repercussions are being felt in India too, in the form of illegal Rohingya refugees.

Emphasising Myanmar's value in India's freedom struggle, Prime Minister Modi said that this is the sacred land from where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose gave the slogan of "give me blood and I will give you freedom".

High Commissioner Misri added that both countries will also discuss the new projects that can be taken up with the new government which has priorities of its own and India is looking forward to discuss priorities with the new government.

He also took the platform to announce the decision to release 40 Myanmar fishermen presently lodged in Indian jails.

He also said that registration of over two lakh companies had been cancelled as those had been found to be indulging in laundering of black money.

PM Modi also commended the Indian community in Myanmar for contributing to their adoptive country's development while also keeping in touch with their roots. "This was not acceptable to us", Modi said in 35-minute address.

He said Yoga was globally recognised due to efforts of Indians living in different parts of the world. Mr. Modi had said India and Myanmar would look at strengthening cooperation in security and counter-terrorism, trade and investment, infrastructure and energy and culture.

"People to people ties are the strength of India-Myanmar relations".

■ Your (Aung San Suu Kyi) courageous leadership to the Myanmar peace process needs to be lauded: PM Modi. Modi is also expected to raise the issue of the exodus of the ethnic Rohingyas into neighbouring countries.

Modi arrived at Nay Pyi Taw on the second leg of his two-nation trip after he travelled to the southeastern Chinese city Xiamen where he attended the annual BRICS Summit.
