Chili's chops 40% of its menu

Chili's chops 40% of its menu”

If there is a certain dish you really enjoy at Chili's Grill and Bar, it could potentially be cut as the restaurant chain says it is slimming down its menu by 40 percent. Chili's rolled out a section of its menu devoted to dishes with fewer than 750 calories in 2012 (it's now down to fewer than 610 calories) and added flatbreads in 2013.

Chili's Grill & Bar (or just Chili's as you likely know it) has chose to make some cuts.

Chili's is ditching trendy menu items like fried cauliflower to double down on burgers and ribs.Chili'sChili's has given up on chasing food trends geared to win over millennial customers. "Guests have also told us they know that today no restaurant can be everything to everyone", Kelli Valade, president of Chili's, said Friday.

"I think that guests will see that they can get all the great things they love, just faster, hotter, served quicker, and it will be a better overall experience for everyone", Valade said. This has driven them away from sit-down staples like Chili's and toward less traditional chains like Shake Shake and Blaze Pizza.

Unaware that the Tex-Mex chain had so many menu items?

Ivankoe called shares of Chili's parent company, Brinker International, a "value trap".

The chain announced Friday it will be slashing what it offers diners by 40 percent, focusing on the brand's core items: burgers, ribs, and fajitas. The company will also be investing millions of dollars into improving the quality of those remaining food options.

"We grew our menu a bit, and we weren't being the best versions of ourselves", Valade said.

Chili's isn't the only casual dining chain to get burnt after chasing down food trends meant to win over hip, millennial customers.
