Futurama to Return as a Radio Play

Futurama to Return as a Radio Play”

Chronicling the exploits of a pizza delivery guy who wakes up 1,000 years into the future after being accidentally cryogenically frozen and goes to work at delivery company Planet Express, Futurama has survived cancellation a few times. Created in 1999 by The Simpsons' Matt Groening, the series follows the adventures of a present-day New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, who after being cryogenically frozen awakens in the retro-futuristic 31st century. It will premiere on Nerdist's network on September 14th. Comedy Central - which wound up airing those films as 16 "new" episodes - fully revived the series by commissioning 68 more episodes before canceling the show, its last episode airing in fall 2013.

Futurama, however, never stays dead for too long, and a brand new episode is now in the works. This radioplay episode will tie in with Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a mobile game that recently hit the iOS and Android app stores. The arrival of Worlds of Tomorrow not only brought the chance of a daily virtual dose of Futurama's expansive universes, but also trailers and in-game content written by showrunner David X. Cohen and voiced by the original cast. The good news is that they'll at least be able to hear them. You can head over to the website to see a countdown timer to the episode's release; the website says you can find in-game content related the episode within the game's mystery boxes.

Plus the Futurama reunion is being called a double episode, so that means even more wacky, zany fun than a regular installment of The Nerdist Podcast. (You can also listen on Soundcloud and Spotify.) The price?
