Manchester City keen on Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld”

Alderweireld is now part of a contract stand-off with Tottenham and according to the Sun, Manchester City will make an approach for the player if the issue isn't resolved in due time.

Whilst City splashed the cash on full backs on Danilo, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy over the summer, manager Guardiola chose not to bring in another central defender to boost his City back line.

Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Toby Alderweireld's contract situation at Tottenham Hotspur with a possible view to a future move.

It's claimed that Guardiola believes Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and he now wants him to reunite with ex-Spurs team-mate Kyle Walker in a deal that may well reach around £60million.

Alderweireld has made 92 appearances for Spurs since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2015 and has established himself as one of the Premier League's finest defenders.

Alderweireld has become a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI and formed a brilliant partnership alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen in defence.

The centre-back is now under contract with the North London club until 2020, but adviser Stijn Francis has claimed "he deserves either a correct contract from Spurs or a transfer".

City seem to be in the hunt for a defender, but whether they would be willing to spend big on Alderweireld, having claimed they could not afford Evans, remains to be seen.
